The Gendang Weekly Digest #11

Happenings from our scene this past week…

Sketch Away!
Ramadan Mubarak! Selamat Berpuasa we wish to all our Muslim friends and readers. And for those who are nifty with the pen, join others with the same passion for the #ramadhansketchchallenge2020 .

Lighting Up the Moment
As part of the #HopeForMalaysians initiative to thank our frontliners, a group of 27 local artistes contributed to a wonderful performance of the song ‘Arena Cahaya’, composed by Zee Avi and Rendra Zawawi. Apart from Zee herself, others featured in the song and video include Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza, Anuar Zain, Vince Chong, Adibah Noor, Rich of Estranged and Datin Tiara Jacquelina.

KLWBC 2020 Has Arrived
Kuala Lumpur has been officially recognised as the UNESCO World Book Capital (KLWBC2020), following a digital launch on the 23rd of April 2020. Although the current situation means on-ground activities have to be postponed, this is also the best time for us to get into the spirit of reading again, and making it a meaningful family activity. Do check out the KL BACA FB page for related online activities and other interesting content.

This Week’s New Music
Punk Rock outfit Pangkah has released ‘Ramadan Al Mubarak’ featuring pop artist and actor, Aqasha. Recorded at “rumah masing-masing”, it’s a cheerful, feed-good tune that we never really expected from the lads. Nice job!

This Week’s New(ish) Album
The Venopian Solitude sprang a surprise on everyone when they released their full length album ‘Hikayat Gundik Berirama’, on all platforms. And in case you haven’t heard it yet, it’s absolutely glorious.
