The Gendang Weekly Digest #9

Happenings from our scene this past week…

#StayAtHome and Enjoy #MuzikDiRumah

A series of virtual concerts featuring some 300 local artistes was kicked off on 8th April by the Communications and Multimedia Ministry in an effort to keep cooped up, responsible Malaysians entertained. The list of artistes include Hujan, Meet Uncle Hussain, Hazama, Stacy and Datuk Jamal Abdillah. Check them out on

#CoviDrumming — Stay at Home Percussion Drum Circle

And here’s something we received in our inbox that’s totally appropriate for Gendang: A drum circle featuring Awe, Bhindee, Bob, sAM & #BabyAaira to simply remind people to #stayathome. Nice one, guys! (P.S.: Will you play at our launch?)

Kuala Pilah Represent!

American apparel brand Vans has just released a head-to-toe collection featuring the mesmerising original artworks of Kuala Pilah visual artist Kide Baharudin. The collection has two themes, town and kampung, and both will feature scenes from Kide’s own humble hometown!

#TIL Brought to You by Balai Seni Negara

Our very own National Art Gallery is doing an awesome job highlighting iconic arts by local artistes every day on its Twitter account. The detailed captions and descriptions also mean casual art lovers get valuable free lessons on the wealth of talent we have here in Malaysia.

This Week’s New Music

A pleasant surprise, this is! After a near two-decade absence from the local scene, award-winning artiste and pub legend, Amir Yussof (who currently resides in New Zealand) has released this wonderful song, ‘Calling On You’, which he originally wrote back in 2008.
