25 Years and Counting For Awie
Celebrating his 25th year as a solo artiste, Datuk Awie packed the Malawati Stadium this past 15th February, for a one-night special, Konsert Awie Romantika. The indefatigable legend played most of his hits (although ‘Iris’ was missing) and even some fast rock numbers. There was also a surreal sub-plot about his love story with ex-fiance Erra Fazira, which was the only weird and jarring bit about the otherwise memorable gig.
The ‘Parasite’ Effect
So okay, as everyone knows, Oscar-dominating film ‘Parasite’ hails from South Korea, but their slew of victories at award shows has triggered serious conversations and reflections on our own film industry and what needs to be done to elevate our very own scene.

More Mamat Khalid Movie Magic
One of the country’s most-beloved film directors, Mamat Khalid, made an appearance at the gala premiere of his latest labour of love, ‘Rock 4 – Rockers Never Dai’, to everyone’s delight. Mamat has been struggling with health issues (which also saw him falling into a coma), but managed to complete the film against all the odds. ‘Rock 4’ will be in cinemas beginning 20th February.
Gigs Postponed
The novel coronavirus outbreak has unfortunately resulted in a slew of gigs scheduled for these couple of months being cancelled or postponed. These include shows by international acts Seventeen, Super Junior, Kenny G and Miriam Yeung, and much-anticipated festivals, Nusa Fest and Rockaway 2020.
Abam Bocey Passes On
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of actor and comedian Abam Bocey (Syed Umar Mokhtar Al-Juffrey). Abam, 32, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Gombak on the 10th of February. He will be profoundly missed.
